We are looking for a mid-level product designer with solid UI craft and a growing technical edge. You'll work across our core product surfaces - search, browser, and AI - raising the visual and interaction quality of experiences used by millions.

This is a role for someone willing to be responsible, think in user journeys, and who is genuinely curious about where AI and design intersect. You'll be coached and challenged in equal measure, with a clear path to grow into a more senior role within a few years.

    Key responsibilities

    • Maintain and improve the UI standards across our product portfolio. Contribute to raising the visual and interaction quality of Ecosia UI, from search and browser to AI surfaces. Help introduce personality and character through motion, components, and moments that bring the product to life and make it special.

    • Own critical user journeys end-to-end. Work across flows rather than owning a single screen. Guide projects from early research through to shipped, polished experiences. Define scope with PMs, own decisions, and move without waiting to be unblocked.

    • Build and grow with AI, instead of just designing with it. Use AI tools as part of your workflow and grow by building AI agents, automations, and pitching into the codebase with the support of the team. We'll coach you, but you need the curiosity and drive to grow your technical skill set.

    • Push the craft of the design system. Spot what's generic, propose what's distinctly Ecosia, and support usage in engineering. Contribute UI components, motion patterns, and design tokens that give the product a more coherent and distinctive visual identity.

    • Communicate with clarity and promptness. Work in a distributed team. Document decisions so PMs, designers (product, content, UXR & brand), and engineers are always in the loop and aligned.

    What you bring

    • A portfolio that proves UI taste and technical proficiency. We're looking for work that shows considered visual craft - not just clean flows. We want to see motion, typography, and small details that make a difference, and that you own through to production. Experience with B2B SaaS, productivity software, AI products, or consumer software with technical depth is a potential great addition.

    • Genuine curiosity about AI in the design process. You're already using AI tools and want to grow into a highly skilled prototyper, using automation, and eventually building workflows or agents. You don't need to be there yet, but you need to want to get there. Previous experience with AI code prototyping and agent building is highly appreciated.

    • Cross-surface range, or the instinct for it. You think in journeys rather than screens and are ready to stretch beyond a single product surface. Experience working with browsers, web apps, and content pages is a plus, but not a requirement.

    • Organized, able to manage your own work, and a bias for action. You lead your own projects, negotiate scope, and default to shipping over perfecting the process. You don't need to be handheld, but are open to being challenged and stretched.

    • 3–5 years of relevant experience. You're finding your rhythm as a designer and seeking an environment that values craft and offers opportunities to advance into a senior, systems-oriented role within a few years.

    Process

    1. Screening interview with Recruiter

    2. 1hr Portfolio review then questions with hiring manager + product designer (20min + 40min)

    3. Async take-home task focused on a design use case, from a business problem to a small AI prototype; then present it for 20 min to a panel with the hiring manager + 1 or 2 designers + 1 product manager. Then 40 minutes of discussion. We pay attention to resourcefulness and storytelling.

    4. Offer
