About the Strategic Finance Team
The Strategic Finance team sits at the centre of Upvest’s most impactful decisions. We own long-range planning, capital allocation, and performance insights—turning strategy into a concrete financial roadmap that underpins sustainable, disciplined growth. The work we do shapes how Upvest allocates resources, prioritises initiatives, and tracks what matters.
We act as a genuine strategic partner to the Executive Management Team and Board—combining rigorous modelling with deep cross-functional relationships to close the loop between financial insight and on-the-ground execution.
About the Role
As a Senior Strategic Finance Associate, you will play a central role in defining Upvest’s long-term financial direction. You will lead our core planning cycles, own the comprehensive financial model, and work hand-in-hand with leaders across the business to assess major initiatives and ensure capital is deployed with discipline. A key part of this role is partnering with Risk to ground our financial roadmap in sound regulatory capital planning. You will report directly to the Head of Strategic Finance and have close exposure to our Executive Management Team.
While Upvest offers a flexible working environment with the ability to work from our various hubs, this specific role requires the successful candidate to be based in Berlin.
What you’ll do:
Build, own, and continuously evolve sophisticated financial models (3-statement) to capture complex business dynamics—including how profitability translates to cash generation and capital position—and improve how we look at our business to support strategic decision-making.
Own defined workstreams within rolling forecasts, annual planning, and management reporting—producing clear performance narratives that articulate variances, underlying drivers, and their broader business implications.
Drive the evaluation of major business initiatives, including new product launches, strategic partnerships, and new market entry, with a focus on margin optimisation and profitability.
Partner closely with the Data team to build scalable, data-driven financial frameworks that go beyond traditional reporting—leveraging data analytics to deliver sharper insights to business partners across Product, GTM, and Operations, and directly informing decisions on pricing, new initiatives, and strategic partnerships.
Collaborate with the Risk team to ensure our financial models provide the necessary foundation for regulatory capital planning and build business cases for license applications as we expand.
Analyse financial and operational performance metrics, growth trajectories, and competitive positioning (including market benchmarking) to surface actionable insights for senior leaders across the business.
Cultivate trusted relationships across the organisation—proactively engaging stakeholders to stay close to their priorities and ensuring financial evaluation keeps pace with decision-making.
Leverage our financial tech stack (Abacum, BigQuery, Looker) and AI tools to automate workflows, streamline reporting, and continuously raise the bar on what the finance function can deliver.
Prepare high-quality materials and analysis for Business Leaders, the Executive Management Team, and the Board of Directors.
What You Bring
3–5+ years in Strategic Finance (FP&A), Investment Banking, Management Consulting, Private Equity, Venture Capital, or a comparable analytically rigorous role. A background in fintech, SaaS, or high-growth environments is a plus.
Advanced financial modelling skills and strong analytical capability—able to handle complexity while keeping outputs clear, concise, and decision-ready. You are comfortable working closely with data teams, know how to extract insight from complex datasets, and see data analytics and AI tools as core to how modern finance should partner with and influence the business.
Solid understanding of corporate finance and accounting fundamentals (CFA, ACA or equivalent qualification is an advantage). A background in or understanding of regulated industries and capital requirements is a significant plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills—you can distil complex analysis into crisp narratives for both finance and non-finance audiences. You take ownership, move with urgency, and are comfortable rolling up your sleeves across multiple teams.
Proficiency in modern FP&A tools (e.g., Abacum, Planful, Anaplan) is an advantage.
