    About us

We’re Cortea, a Berlin-based RegTech firm modernizing the foundational processes of financial audit. Audit is the bedrock of global capital markets, yet the profession remains burdened by manual data tie-outs and fragmented checklists. We believe that professional judgment should be the center of the audit, not manual data entry.

We build AI-native infrastructure designed to augment the auditor’s capabilities. By formalizing complex audit logic into scalable software, we enable highly-qualified professionals to focus on professional skepticism, complex accounting estimates, and high-stakes judgment.

With €10m+ in funding and a live product used by innovative firms across Europe, we are contributing to the emerging best practices for the AI-supported audit of the future.

    The role

This role is for an experienced auditor who wants to stop filling out checklists and start designing the systems that make them unnecessary.

You will bring deep field knowledge of how audits actually work and translate that into structured logic that our software can execute at scale. You are not a developer. But you think clearly about processes, can break down complex standards into step-by-step rules, and care deeply about what a defensible, high-quality audit output looks like.

    What you'll do

    • Design audit logic. Take complex requirements from ISA and IDW standards (e.g. ISA 240, ISA 330) and translate them into clear, structured workflows that the software can follow. You define the rules; the system applies them.

    • Guide analysis of complex documents. Help shape how our software reads and interprets contracts and financial statements — for example, for lease accounting (IFRS 16) or revenue recognition. You define what the software should look for and how it should flag exceptions.

    • Safeguard auditor independence. Design checks that prevent over-reliance on automated outputs. You ensure that our workflows remain compliant with IDW PS 210 and that reviewers always stay in control of the professional judgment.

    • Own documentation quality. Make sure every output our system produces is structured for clean integration into the working paper file (Prüfungsakte), in line with IDW PS 450 — so it holds up under quality control and peer review.

    • Represent Cortea externally. Attend industry events, contribute to publications, and engage with regulators on the evolving role of technology in the audit profession.

    Who you are

    • At least 6 years of professional audit experience, ideally at a Big 4 or leading mid-market firm. You have worked at Prüfungsleiter level and understand what client responsibility and liability risk mean in practice.

    • Strong command of IDW PS, ISA, and HGB. You can read a standard and turn it into a reproducible process.

    • You think in structured steps. You don't need to write code — but you can map out a decision tree, specify what inputs a check needs, and describe what a correct result looks like.

    • You want to leave a mark on the profession — not just move into a new role, but help build something that changes how audits are done.

    • Native or near-native fluency in German and English (C1+).

    How we work

    • Execution over process. We move quickly, but we do not cut corners on quality. Rigor is not a bureaucratic hurdle — it is what makes the product trustworthy.

    • Consistency by design. We build systems that produce reliable outputs, so reviewers spend less time fixing inconsistencies and more time on the things that matter.

    • Direct and honest. If a feature risks undermining professional judgment, we say so and rethink it. No one here optimises for looking busy.

    What success looks like

    3 months

You have formalised the logic for 3 core audit procedures and integrated them into a reviewable documentation format.

    6 months

You have measurably reduced review time for pilot users by improving the consistency and clarity of system-generated outputs.

    12 months

You are a recognised voice in the external conversation about how technology is reshaping the audit profession.

    What we offer

    • A rare chance to shape the direction of a high-growth company in a field that has seen very little innovation.

    • The opportunity to build the tools you always wished you had in practice.

    • A clear path from traditional audit into a senior role at the intersection of finance and technology.

    • Competitive salary and meaningful equity.

    Interview process

    • Intro call with Leon

    • Technical case study with Philipp (co-founder) — e.g. structuring a decision tree for ISA 240

    • Strategic and cultural fit conversation with Valentin (co-founder)

    • On-site in Berlin — a working session focused on designing a clear, reviewer-first workflow
