Your role We’re looking for a hands-on Technical Lead / Staff Engineer to help build and scale Sunday Natural’s mobile commerce app as one of our most strategic future channels. Working closely with the Product Owner, you will shape the app's technical direction at a pivotal stage: while the UI/UX foundation for Phase 1 is already defined, the broader evolution of the app offers meaningful room for both technical leadership and product influence. Having recently kicked off development with a dedicated external agency, we are now looking for a strong in-house technical owner to oversee architecture and manage the agency interface with a high degree of independence. Your mission is to support the successful delivery of V1, establish internal ownership early, and lead the transition toward a fully in-house team over the next 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

Agency & In-housing: Act as the primary technical stakeholder and bridge to our external agency, overseeing their output while planning and executing the transition to an internal team.
Technical Vision & Architecture: Define and evolve the mobile architecture using React Native, ensuring it is performant and deeply integrated with our headless eCommerce ecosystem (Magento 2 and PIMcore).
Hands-On Development: Own the development of the application and middleware layer by actively writing code, extending core functionality, and building out new features as we transition in-house.
eCommerce Optimization: Own the full mobile lifecycle with a focus on high-conversion checkout flows, seamless user journeys, and lightning-fast performance.
Quality & Standards: Set and enforce high-quality coding standards, conduct rigorous code reviews, and advocate for best practices in TypeScript and React Native.
Release Management: Oversee the full deployment pipeline (CI/CD), managing App Store and Google Play submissions, certificates, and staged rollouts using tools like Fastlane.
Team Leadership: Eventually recruit, mentor, and grow a high-performing internal mobile team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and product-centric thinking.

7+ years in software engineering, with at least 5+ years specifically focused on building and shipping production-grade React Native applications.

Proven track record in the eCommerce sector; experience with Magento 2 (REST/GraphQL) and PIMcore is a significant advantage.

Experience in a Lead or Senior role with a high degree of autonomy, ideally having managed external vendors or led in-housing projects.

Expert knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, state management (Zustand, Redux), and the Expo ecosystem (EAS, Expo Router).

Familiarity with writing custom native modules (Swift/Kotlin/Expo Modules) and mastery of mobile CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, Sentry, Firebase).

A strong Product & UX mindset—you treat speed, responsiveness, and reliability as core features of a premium brand experience.

Outstanding communication skills in English; German language skills are a strong plus.
